Be Claims Free - Subscription based car insurance

The initial ideology of this software was to alleviate the stress and financial insecurity that envelopes most young drivers when dealing with insurance companies. Allowing drivers to start a savings bond specifically aimed at motor incidents can help quell the almost insurmountable importance given to their no claims bonus, and accident avoidance. This can result in near shell shock results of young drivers as their chances of any sort of financial security are stripped away instantly, if they are involved in a collision. Hopefully, with our help, young drivers will have at least a small cushion to fall on if an incident was to occur.

Project Description

Be Claims Free is a subscription plan, billing the user €20 a month. During this time they may request up to €80 back, in the event they have been clamped. This will be deducted from their end of year eligible value. Through research we ascertained that 27% of drives make a claim annually. Our policy allows 43% of clients to make a full claim annually before going into a deficit. We believe our policy protects us from this deficit as clients may only claim to the amount of the damage made, or triple their annual funds, and are only eligible at the end of every year to do so. Our cover aims to protect drivers who cause small damage to other cars and can’t afford the cost to repair the vehicle without making a claim. This application will be set up as a web page, built with HTML using bootstrap, and will access a large SQL database of clients with PHP and JQUERY. The payments are made using Stripe’s API. The software will be made live with Heroku, a free cloud application platform that allows the integration of SQL databases. As this software is subscription based, and live, the most important feature needed was security. For the user to subscribe, they should be under the impression their details are secure. This results in a demand for professional looking appearance and professional security in regards to online transactions. For the user’s profile, their passwords are hashed to maintain a level of security in their details. As for the transfer of funds, the details are never accessed by our database, rather a third party software, with great reputation, is responsible for all transactions. I had set out this project to deliver a tangible application that could benefit young drivers and also better understand PHP, a strong language with a multitude of uses. Throughout the project however, I became much more involved with the payment aspect of the software, and the security of online transactions.

Project Findings

Despite my initial goal of majority automation there is a requirement for human interaction with the claim aspect of the software. Inputted requests for funding from users requires confirmation from an admin. The website is a tangible business venture, given that the admin has the capital to fund any deficit incurred in the first year or two given the business model requires a high volume of users to turn a profit. The venture is based on the decade of statistics displaying the percentage of drivers making claims in any given year.
