A cross platform schedule/planning application

The aim of this project is to create a cross-platform scheduling/planning aid tool that works on both an Android operating system and as a web application. By creating two applications users are provided with additional functionality including being able to randomly generate a schedule on the android application and manually create a schedule on the web application.

Project Description

Android devices are the most popular devices at the moment so it was important to create an application that works efficiently on this operating system, the additional web application will give users a more diverse choice of device. Users are able to access the features of this program on their computers, Android devices or iPhones. The applications were created using Android studio and Laravel, a PHP framework. Both applications share a MySql database hosted on a shared web server. The programming languages used to create the Android side of the application were JAVA and PHP while for the Laravel application PHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript were used. Google Maps and Places API were used to implement map services on the web application.  Both systems can be used in conjunction with each other. Users can create an account on the Android system and create a randomly generated schedule. They can manually create, edit and delete a schedule on the web application. Any schedules created are stored in the database and can be viewed on either application. The web application allows users to view different places on the map and get directions to that place.

Project Findings

Through undertaking this project we got a better understanding of how different technologies interact with each other. We greatly improved our skills in both android programming and web application development.
