Neo-Matrix music to visual experience
The aim of this project was to create a device capable of reacting to music via Neopixels. This was to show that a system like this could be implemented in different night club venues to help people with hearing difficulties enjoy this scene more by making the night a visual experience rather than audio. This practically means the beat of a song would cause the floor to pulse with multi-coloured lights.
This project involved an RGB LED matrix made using the Adafruit Neopixels. RGB LEDs are special types, each individually programmable, making them extremely useful for this kind of project. The matrix itself is made of wood and acrylic, designed to house the Neopixels and the circuit that provides the power. The software side of this project was all implemented with an Arduino Uno. The Uno provided some of the circuit power, however an additional battery had to be added. The circuit is housed outside the matrix to make it easier to adjust code and replace/fix the components. The matrix itself that I made consisted of a 10x6 row matrix. It is capable of very basic LED displays, as well as complex ones thanks to the Neopixels flexibility to be coded individually.
Much knowledge was gained in the area of complex coding. This is a great starting point for developing more light based projects.
