The Effects of a Raspberry Pi in a Security Setting

The aim of this project is to properly grasp how a Raspberry Pi could be implemented in a security setting with the creation of a security camera using Raspberry Pi. It was created using a series of Python scripts.

Project Description

The Camera will performs mathematical computations by deducting one captured image from another. It uses a simple yet powerful framework called SimpleCV, which stands for Computer Vision. SimpleCV is based off of OpenCV which is a powerful library which is used for computer vision and machine learning projects. Raspberry Pi was chosen as it is a powerful microcomputer that has all the necessary specifications which would suit a security camera. It has plenty of customization and has its own dedicated operating system called Raspbian.

Project Findings

The creation of the camera was a success and the effects of a Raspberry Pi in a security setting have been explored through a working security camera that detects motion and alerts the user through email. There is still plenty of room for improvement and further development however the core features of motion detection were established.
