Eliminating stress from college life

To see if meditation decreases stress levels

Project Description

Meditation has been reported in the past as a useful tool to combat stress. Stress is common among college students due to long hours, pressure from parents to do well. It can result in anxiety, depression and increases the risk of burnout. The current study aims to test whether meditation affects stress within the student community. It also explored whether hours in college and hours a week in a part time job affected stress levels and whether there was a relationship between hours in college and time spent meditating with regards to stress.. Participants took part in a meditation seminar and then filled out the perceived stress scale. They were retested two weeks later. A two way ANOVA was carried out on SPSS to analyse the data recorded. The present study found that meditation is useful in reducing stress among students and recommends that mediation classes be introduced in colleges. Workload was found not to have a significant effect on difference in stress
